Transgender person shot over extortion refusal, police launch hunt for suspect

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2026) A transgender person, identified as Sarah, was critically injured after being shot multiple times near Iqbal Plaza in the jurisdiction of Faqirabad Police Station here on Monday, allegedly for refusing to pay extortion money.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred when a suspect identified as Adam opened fire on Sarah after repeated demands for extortion were refused.

The victim’s associate stated that the accused had been demanding Rs 600,000 for several days prior to the attack.

Following the refusal, the suspect allegedly shot Sarah six times and fled the scene.

The injured was immediately shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where doctors were providing treatment, and her condition was reported to be critical.

Police have registered a case and initiated efforts to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, SP Faqirabad Resham Jahangir visited the crime scene along with SDPO Faqirabad Circle Ejaz Nabi and investigation staff.

The officials were briefed on the case, and the SP directed that the investigation be carried out on modern scientific lines, ensuring all aspects are thoroughly examined.

The police officer reaffirmed the commitment to apprehend the suspect at the earliest and bring him to justice.
