Tribute paid to Prof Dharijo's for contributions to science, Sindhi literature

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) The Sindhi Adabi Sangat, University of Sindh chapter, on Sunday organized a condolence reference at the M.H. Panhwar Institute in memory of the renowned translator, researcher, author and former Professor of the Department of Zoology, SU, Prof Dr Ali Murtaza Dharijo.

The participants paid rich tribute to the late scholar and described his demise as an irreparable loss to the academic and literary community.

The ceremony was chaired by the SU's Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Marri with a number of faculty members, writers, researchers, students and members of the bereaved family in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion the VC acknowledged that Prof Dharijo gave a new identity to the discipline of zoology and other science subjects in Sindh through his research, teaching and scholarly writings.

He stated that the late professor made biological sciences accessible in the Sindhi language, opening the doors of knowledge for thousands of students.

"His research has become an important reference for academic excellence, scientific thinking and the study of local biodiversity," he said.

Dr Marri added that the late scholar introduced scientific terminology into the Sindhi language in a simple yet standardized manner, making a lasting contribution to the academic world.

Renowned writer Faheem Noonari said Prof Dharijo was not only a scientist but also an intellectual deeply connected with language, literature and society.

He credited the deceased for being a pioneer in making scientific knowledge of zoology accessible to the common people.

Researcher Nasir Ali Panhwar said Prof Dharijo played a remarkable role in creating awareness about ecology and biodiversity.

He noted that the late scholar's research laid a strong academic foundation for environmental conservation.

"He inspired young people to appreciate nature and pursue scientific research," he said.

The Pro VC Dadu Campus Prof Dr Aneela Naz Soomro, writer Dr Shah Murad Chandio, the late scholar's son and social figure Zahid Murtaza Dharijo and other academicians and writers also expressed their views at the reference.
