Former U.S. President Donald Trump has deleted an AI-generated image in which he portrayed himself as Jesus Christ, following widespread criticism on social media and from religious circles.

He initially posted the picture on his social media site Truth Social, where it received immediate responses. According to critics, including some Christian leaders, Trump appeared to be disrespecting religious feelings and the post was deemed inappropriate.

As a report by a British media house indicated, the controversial image led to allegations of blasphemy, especially in the Christian community. The controversy became even stronger as the post went viral, sparking discussions about the application of artificial intelligence on sensitive religious topics.

Trump has been reported to have shared the picture with a derogatory comment directed to Pope Leo who is the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church. This mixture of the visual and the statement itself contributed to criticism.

The post lasted almost 12 hours on the platform before it was taken down. Screenshots were already spreading, though, and still continue to spark debate even following its removal.

This incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding the use of AI-generated content by public figures, especially when it intersects with religion and cultural sensitivities.
