US president claims that US forces had caused significant damage to Iran’s key military infrastructure over the past month, targeting several strategic sites
WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 2nd, 2026) United States President Donald Trump on Thursday announced to continue war with Iran and indicated a possible escalation in tensions with Iran, stating that the coming weeks would be decisive and military operations could intensify.
In an address to the American public, Trump claimed that US forces had caused significant damage to Iran’s key military infrastructure over the past month, targeting several strategic sites.
He said the operation had progressed through major phases and would now be taken to its logical conclusion.
According to Trump, potential threats from Iran have been considerably reduced, and its strategic ambitions have suffered a major setback. However, he stressed that operations would continue until all objectives are fully achieved, adding that Iran’s energy facilities could also be considered as potential targets.
The US president also accused the Iranian government of suppressing public protests over the past decades, though he did not present evidence to support these claims.
During his speech, Trump reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to the security of its regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Speaking about global oil markets, Trump said the United States had achieved energy self-sufficiency and was no longer as dependent on middle Eastern oil as before. He noted that regional tensions had led to fluctuations in oil prices but expressed confidence that the situation would stabilise soon.
He added that the ongoing conflict in the region was entering its final phase and that key maritime routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, would return to normal once tensions ease.
