WASHINGTON: The Federation International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup final will be played in the United States on July 19 next month, with FIFA reportedly granting special permission for US President Donald Trump to take part in the trophy presentation ceremony.
The tournament, the world’s most popular sporting event, is currently being jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The final will take place in New Jersey on July 19.
According to foreign media reports, Trump will be allowed to present the trophy to the winning team and celebrate with the players on the field after the match, following FIFA approval.
Sources said FIFA has no objection to Trump breaking the traditional presentation protocol, which typically limits who can directly hand over the trophy to the winning captain.
The US president has reportedly been informed that FIFA wants him to present the World Cup trophy and remain on the podium during the victory celebrations.
