The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on two local food outlets after serious violations of food safety and hygiene standards were detected during an inspection
KHANEWAL, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on two local food outlets after serious violations of food safety and hygiene standards were detected during an inspection.
According to PFA sources, inspection teams found poor sanitary conditions at the premises. A live rat was discovered inside mayonnaise cartons in the storage room, while rat droppings were also observed near the freezer area.
Authorities stated that expired bread was being fried in stale and foul-smelling oil, and chicken used for fast food preparation was stored at room temperature in an improper manner.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The inspection team also raised objections over the use of unidentified spices, absence of proper labeling on mayonnaise products, and failure of food handlers to wear beard masks, creating potential health risks for consumers.
During the operation, officials discarded approximately 30 liters of substandard cooking oil, expired bread, and about 10 kilograms of improperly stored marinated chicken.
Officials added that action had previously been taken against the same food point on multiple occasions, warning food businesses to strictly follow hygiene regulations to avoid penalties.
