FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has established rooftop biofloc demonstration system meant to promote modern aquaculture in the country.
UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali inaugurated the biofloc system on Wednesday while Dean Sciences Dr Amer Jamil, Chairman Zoology, Wildlife and Fisheries Dr Khalid Abbas, Dr Abdul Mateen, Registrar Dr Asif Kamran, Treasurer Zeeshan Ishfaq Bukhary, Deputy Treasurer Faisal Shehzad and other notables were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that two biofloc with a diameter of ten feet have capability of producing 12 mounds of fish in a season whereas to produce the same quantity of fish in the traditional method, half acre of farm is required.
Dr Zulfiqar Ali said that biofloc technology as a modern aquaculture system operates with minimal water exchange, recycling nutrients within, improve water quality and protect ecosystem.
He said that the aquaculture initiative highlights the importance of fish farming as a sustainable protein source, offering a nutrient-rich food with comparatively lower environmental impact.
He said that this system plays a significant role in supporting livelihoods by creating economic opportunities. The initiative also contributes to improving income levels and enhancing food accessibility for local communities, making it a valuable step toward food security and sustainable development, he added.
He said that it is designed to protect natural ecosystems by promoting controlled and efficient production methods, thereby reducing pressure on wild fish populations.
He said that we can produce the fish with less cost, and water. It is the dire need of the hour to use the modern trends in order to raise the productivity, he added.
