LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 8th, 2026) On the occasion of World Oceans Day, the University of education, Lahore organized a seminar titled “Pakistan’s Journey Towards a Sustainable Blue Economy” and an art exhibition titled “Infinite Blue” on June 8, 2026, at the Township Campus, Lahore.
The event brought together academics, artists, environmental enthusiasts, and students to highlight the vital role of oceans in sustaining life, maintaining climate balance, and promoting global environmental harmony.
The event was held under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwer Chaudhry.
The chief guest and keynote speaker of the seminar was Commodore (R) Prof. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad, Vice Chancellor, Minhaj University Lahore. The seminar was organized under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar Saleem, Principal, Lower Mall Campus, and Dr. Faheem Khurshid Butt, Director Student Affairs, while the art exhibition Infinite Blue was curated and supervised by Dr. Samina Zia Sheikh, Associate Professor of Fine Arts.
The exhibition showcased a diverse collection of artworks inspired by oceans, environmental concerns, and the symbolic significance of water. Through their paintings, students effectively portrayed harmony in nature, the aesthetic and emotional dimensions of the sea, and the importance of environmental awareness.
In his keynote address, Commodore (R) Prof. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad highlighted the immense significance of Pakistan’s Blue Economy and the crucial role of oceans in economic growth, trade, fisheries, tourism, and environmental sustainability.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He emphasized that oceans are not only a source of livelihood and national development but also play a fundamental role in maintaining the global climate system and ecological balance. He encouraged students and artists to promote marine conservation and environmental awareness through creative expression and intellectual engagement.
In his message, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwer Chaudhry stated that the observance of World Oceans Day is essential for fostering a collective sense of responsibility towards the protection of marine ecosystems. Appreciating the integration of art and academic dialogue, he remarked that such initiatives help cultivate environmental consciousness among young people, encourage reflection on climate challenges and sustainability, and deepen appreciation of nature through artistic expression.
The seminar concluded with a comprehensive and constructive discussion on environmental responsibility and a sustainable future. In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Umar Saleem noted that the dialogue had further strengthened awareness, understanding, and the spirit of collective action towards a prosperous and sustainable maritime future for Pakistan.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the distribution of certificates among students who participated in the art exhibition.
