LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The 41st meeting of the UET Syndicate was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Munir (TI). The meeting took place at the Chemical Seminar Hall, where several important decisions were made concerning the University's academic standards, administrative structure, and the welfare of students and faculty members.
The meeting commenced with the confirmation of the minutes of the 40th Senate meeting and a review of the implementation report on its decisions.
The Syndicate approved the establishment of a new Faculty of Computing, which will bring together the Department of Computer Science, the Institute of Data Sciences, and the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cyber Security under a single faculty framework.
The Syndicate also approved amendments to the marking criteria for the appointment of Deans, revisions to the University Service Statutes, and statutes governing various key positions, including Director ORIC and Director QEC.
In line with the policy of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), formal guidelines for the appointment of Professors of Practice were also approved. The initiative aims to engage industry professionals in academic activities and equip students with skills and knowledge aligned with contemporary industry requirements.
The house approved the budget estimates for the fiscal years 2024–25 and 2025–26.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir presented a performance report covering the last one and a half years, which was appreciated by the members.
The Syndicate further approved the installation of a 1 MW solar power system at the University's New Campus in KSK. The project is expected to enhance energy efficiency while contributing to a more sustainable academic environment.
Members of the Syndicate also deliberated on various administrative and academic matters, including revised recruitment regulations and the confirmation of proceeding of previous meetings, aimed at further improving transparency and efficiency in the University's governance.
The Senate nominated one member to the Finance and Planning Committee (F&PC) and elected two Senate members to serve on the Syndicate, including at least one female member, in accordance with statutory requirements.
At the end of the meeting, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir thanked all members for their valuable contributions and reaffirmed UET Lahore's commitment to advancing modern technology, quality education, and impactful research.
During the elections, Prof. Dr. Farhat Saleem and Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan were elected as members of the Syndicate, while Dr Qaiser Saleem was elected as a member of the Finance and Planning Committee (F&PC).
