Concerns have been raised among citizens, mango growers and fruit enthusiasts over the possible cancellation of the traditional Mango Festival in Mirpurkhas this year, a historic event that has long been associated with the district’s identity as a major mango-producing region
MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jun, 2026) Concerns have been raised among citizens, mango growers and fruit enthusiasts over the possible cancellation of the traditional Mango Festival in Mirpurkhas this year, a historic event that has long been associated with the district’s identity as a major mango-producing region.
The Mango Festival, first initiated in 1973 and held annually as a national-level event, was previously organized with the support of provincial authorities, including Sindh’s Minister for Tourism and Culture Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah. The event has traditionally served as a platform to promote Mirpurkhas mangoes while highlighting the challenges faced by orchard owners.
Growers say the festival’s significance has increased due to ongoing issues affecting mango production, including plant diseases, climate change, water shortages and declining yields.

According to Deputy Commissioner Mirpurkhas Nawab Sameer Laghari, a request for funds has been forwarded and the festival may still be organized subject to availability of resources. However, locals and stakeholders have expressed concern over the lack of visible preparations as June begins, while some have linked the uncertainty to administrative and coordination issues. Citizens have urged authorities to revive the festival, emphasizing its cultural, economic and agricultural importance for the region.
