UNICEF delegation visits KPCPWC to strengthen child protection collaboration

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st May, 2026) A delegation of UNICEF visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission (KPCPWC) on Friday to review ongoing child protection initiatives and enhance collaboration for strengthening child protection systems in the province.

The delegation, comprising Jennifer Melton, Chief Child Protection UNICEF Pakistan, and Ms. Bushra Ajmal, Head of Child Protection UNICEF Peshawar, held a series of engagements across the provincial capital.

The visit commenced with a meeting with Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sharif Hussain, where discussions focused on improving coordination mechanisms, strengthening system-level responses, and advancing joint programming in the child protection sector.

Later, the delegation visited Village Council Badizai, where a Broad-Based Community Meeting (BBCM) was organized for the formation of Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs) under the Child Friendly Communities Initiatives (CFCIs), a UNICEF-supported programme.

Community members, including adolescents, attended the session, highlighting the importance of local ownership and community structures in ensuring child safety.

Subsequently, the delegation visited the KPCPWC office, where Additional Chief Ijaz Muhammad Khan delivered a comprehensive briefing on key achievements, ongoing interventions, and field-level progress across the province.

The briefing also outlined operational challenges and areas requiring further technical support.

The delegation appreciated the efforts of KPCPWC and reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of child protection systems in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The visit concluded with a shared resolve to further deepen collaboration for the protection and well-being of children across the province.
