The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has abolished the licensing requirement for solar consumers with systems up to 25 kilowatts
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has abolished the licensing requirement for solar consumers with systems up to 25 kilowatts.
The decision was taken following special directives of Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, a spokesperson of the Power Division said on Tuesday.
According to the spokesperson, the Power Division had formally approached NEPRA, requesting removal of the licensing condition for small-scale solar users to facilitate the growth of distributed renewable energy.
Acting on the request, NEPRA has issued a notification eliminating the requirement of obtaining a license for solar systems of 25kW and below.
The move is being seen as a significant step toward promoting solar energy adoption, reducing regulatory hurdles, and encouraging consumers to shift toward clean and affordable energy solutions.
