ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 11th, 2026) Senior officials from the United States and Iran held direct negotiations in Islamabad on Saturday in a significant diplomatic effort to bring an end to six weeks of conflict between the two countries.

The high-level meeting marked one of the most important engagements between Washington and Tehran in decades. The US delegation included Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Iran was represented by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.

According to sources, the talks continued for around two hours before both sides paused discussions. Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was also present during the meeting.

The dialogue is part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilise the region following weeks of hostilities, with Pakistan playing a key role in facilitating negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials confirmed that Tehran remains in contact with Lebanese authorities to ensure that ceasefire arrangements are being upheld across all fronts.

Officials in Lebanon close to Hezbollah have expressed support for the Islamabad dialogue, describing it as a constructive step toward de-escalation rather than separate negotiations planned elsewhere.

In a separate statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry urged all parties participating in the Pakistan talks to act with restraint and avoid any actions that could undermine the diplomatic process.

The ongoing discussions in Islamabad are being closely watched globally, as they are seen as a critical opportunity to convert a fragile ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement between the United States and Iran.
