US thanks Pakistan for continuing mediation role with Iran as top diplomats meet

WASHINGTON, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked for the "constructive role" Pakistan continues to play in realizing President Donald Trump’s vision for peace in the middle East and its mediation efforts with Iran when he met Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Muhammed Ishaq Dar in Washington, DC, Friday, according to State Department Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

The meeting came amid growing signs of progress toward a possible framework agreement between Washington and Tehran, following weeks of indirect negotiations and ceasefire talks facilitated through Pakistani mediation.

Spokesperson Pigott also said, "The Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister agreed upon the importance of working together to further strengthen a meaningful partnership that fosters security and prosperity for both Americans and Pakistanis."

On his part, Rubio expressed his condolences for the victims of the recent Balochistan Liberation Army terrorist attack near Quetta.
