Vance says he was heading to the talks under guidance of US President Donald Trump and expressed optimism about a constructive outcome
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 10th, 2026) US Vice President JD Vance has departed from Maryland for Pakistan to lead the American delegation in upcoming negotiations with Iran, scheduled to take place in Islamabad.
Speaking to media at the airport prior to his departure, Vance said he was heading to the talks under the guidance of US President Donald Trump and expressed optimism about a constructive outcome.
He noted that the United States is hopeful the discussions with Iran will yield positive results.
The vice president emphasized that if the Iranian leadership engages in talks with sincerity, Washington would also be prepared to move forward with an open and cooperative approach.
However, he warned that any lack of seriousness or attempts to act in bad faith would be met with a firm response from the US negotiating team.
The US delegation will include Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while the Iranian side will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
