BAHAWALPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Vice Chancellor of The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, visited the Artificial Intelligence Research and Advancement Lab established in the Faculty of Computing, where he reviewed ongoing research activities and assessed the performance of faculty members and students engaged in advanced AI work. Recently, the lab was inaugurated by Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Muhammad Aqeel Hilal, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), who appreciated the university’s commitment to adopting modern technologies and described the initiative as a commendable and strategically significant step.
The AI Research and Advancement Lab has been established under the vision of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran, with the active support of the Bahawalpur Garrison. The initiative reflects a growing convergence of academic innovation and national defence needs, representing a model of civil-military cooperation in research and development. According to university faculty, the lab is aligned with a broader strategic initiative titled “Muarqa-e-Haq,” which positions IUB as a forward-looking institution committed to supporting national defence priorities while strengthening the technological and economic foundations of Pakistan.

The facility has been established under the leadership of Chairperson, Department of Artificial Intelligence, Prof. Dr. Najia Sahar, with key support from Dean Faculty of Computing Prof. Dr. Dost Muhammad and Director IT Dr. Faisal Shahzad along with dedicated contributions from faculty members. During his visit, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the team involved in the establishment of the lab and emphasized the importance of strengthening research culture, innovation, and industry-relevant technological development within the university system.
