KARACHI:

Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has initiated formal proceedings to verify the ownership and legal status of a plot located adjacent to Hill Park in PECHS Block 6, reaffirming the city's commitment to protecting public land and preserving key recreational spaces.

According to a statement issued by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the mayor has written to the Federal Secretary for Housing and Works, requesting an immediate and comprehensive review of Plot No. 39-G-4, Block 6, PECHS, Karachi.

The move follows information brought to KMC's attention and reflects the municipal administration's determination to safeguard public assets from illegal occupation, land irregularities and unauthorized transactions while ensuring transparency and adherence to the law.

Preliminary scrutiny conducted by KMC indicates that the plot is currently being represented as measuring approximately 500 square yards. However, a review of the original approved PECHS Master Plan of 1959 reportedly found that Plot No. 39-G-4 does not exist in the original sanctioned layout plan.

Furthermore, official records and approved site measurements suggest that the location may contain only a residual parcel of land measuring approximately 200 square yards.
