Wanted robber held after encounter with police

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) A suspected robber allegedly involved in multiple theft and robbery cases was arrested after being injured during an encounter with police in the jurisdiction of Gulgasht police station near Basti Nau late on Friday night.

According to police,a patrol team was conducting crime-checking and snap-checking operations at a checkpoint in Basti Nau when three suspects riding a motorcycle approached the area.

The suspects allegedly ignored police signals to stop and attempted to flee.

Police said the suspects dismounted from the motorcycle and opened fire on the police party from different directions.

The police team retaliated,leading to an exchange of fire.

After the firing ceased,one suspect was found injured with a bullet wound to his right knee.

Police claimed he was apparently hit by gunfire from his own accomplices during the encounter.

A 30-bore pistol was recovered from his possession.

The arrested suspect was identified as Abdul Latif,r/o Chak Jhanbo in Muzaffargarh district.

Police said a record check showed he was wanted in several theft and robbery cases.

His two accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness while continuing to fire at the police team, officials added.

The injured suspect was shifted to Nishtar Hospital by Rescue 1122 for treatment,while police launched a search operation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Separate legal proceedings have been initiated while further investigation was underway.
