Wanted suspect killed in police shootout

NOWSHERA VIRKAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) An absconder was killed during a police shootout here after being struck by gunfire during exchange of firing with the police, the police said on Monday.

They said a Tatle Aali police team were conducting a checkpoint operation on the Sheikhupura Road near Ghumanwala when they received information that a robbery suspect, identified as Owais, was present at Kingarwali Bridge along with two armed accomplices.

The police moved to arrest the suspect, who was wanted in a robbery case.

The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team, triggering an exchange of gunfire.

During the shootout, Owais was fatally wounded, the police said.

The two accompanying suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness, the police added.

The police registered a case against the suspects and started further investigations.

The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Gujranwala for legal formalities.
