WASA starts installing safety nets on manholes in Sialkot

SIALKOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Sialkot has started installing safety nets beneath manhole covers in different parts of the city to protect human lives on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali.

According to officials, the installation work has initially been launched in Mohalla Islamabad and Iqbal Town, while safety nets will be installed at 150 manholes before Eid-ul-Azha.

The safety nets were also tested by placing human weight on them to check their strength and performance, and the nets successfully withstood the load.

The initiative has been launched to ensure the safety of citizens, especially children and pedestrians, by preventing accidents caused by uncovered or damaged manholes, officials said.
