PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Recent rainfall in the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has led to a noticeable increase in water inflow at Tarbela Dam, said the dam authorities on Thursday.
Dam officials said that the water level in Tarbela Dam has risen to 1,451 feet, which is 49 feet above the dead level of 1,402 feet. The dam’s maximum level is 1,550 feet.
The inflow of water into the dam has been recorded at 36,500 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 15,000 cusecs, indicating a steady accumulation of water due to the recent rains.
Despite the improved water situation, power generation remains limited.
Out of the dam’s 17 power generation units, only 4 units are currently operational, while 13 units are shut down.
The total electricity generation capacity of Tarbela Dam is 4,988 megawatts, but currently, only 760 megawatts of electricity is being produced.
Authorities have attributed the rising water levels to the recent rainfall in the upper regions of the province, which has positively impacted the reservoir levels.
Further updates are expected as weather conditions evolve and water inflow continues to change, they said.
