In Mumbai, a family of four has died in a suspected food poisoning incident, with watermelon believed to be a possible cause, according to a report by NDTV.
Police said 40-year-old Abdullah Abdul Qadir, his 35-year-old wife Nasreen, and their daughters Ayesha, 16, and Zainab, 13, had dinner with relatives on Saturday night, where they ate biryani. Later, around 1:00 a.m., the family consumed watermelon.
Within hours, all four began to feel unwell, and by around 5:00 a.m., they developed severe vomiting. A local doctor initially treated them, but as their condition worsened, they were shifted to another hospital, where they died during treatment.
Dr. Zaid Qureshi, who attended to the patients, said they were suffering from acute vomiting and diarrhea and had reported eating watermelon prior to the onset of symptoms.
Authorities said the exact cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examinations are completed.
