ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Weather experts on Thursday predicted light to moderate rain continuing until April 4, warning of potential snowfall and hazards like urban flooding and landslides, as the system is set to impact Karachi in the next 24 hours before advancing toward Punjab and the north.
Director of the Meteorological Department, Irfan Virk, while speaking to a local news channel, said Karachi is expected to receive light to moderate rain during the next 24 hours.
He added that the weather system will gradually expand to other parts of the country, including South Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and northern regions.
Virk warned that the rainfall may be accompanied by unpredictable snowfall in higher areas and could trigger landslides, urging citizens to remain cautious.
Anjum Nazir Zaigham, Deputy Director and spokesperson for the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), also issued a strong warning, urging farmers to remain highly alert as the ongoing rains could seriously damage fruit orchards and standing crops.
He noted that waterlogging is likely to persist until April 4, posing an additional threat to agricultural land.
He further cautioned that another spell of rain is expected between April 6 and 7, which could worsen conditions for farmers already dealing with the current system.
Zaigham emphasized that repeated wet spells may intensify crop losses and disrupt harvesting schedules.
Responding to a query, he explained that shifting weather patterns are driving these unpredictable rains, adding that many farmers are now being forced to focus on early harvesting to minimize potential losses.
Both Irfan Virk and Anjum Nazir Zaigham appealed to citizens to exercise extreme caution during this unpredictable weather spell.
They urged travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys, advised farmers to take all possible measures to protect crops, and emphasized staying alert to official updates.
The experts stressed that preparedness and vigilance are essential to minimize the risks of flooding, landslides, and crop damage as the rains continue across the country.
