PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace, Rubab Mehdi here Tuesday led the first-ever provincial-level webinar with vice chancellors of 48 public and private universities of the province to provide women harassment free, safe and dignified environment.

The high-level webinar was organized in collaboration with Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the guidance of Secretary Higher Education Dr. Israr.

The Primary objective of the initiative was to strengthen institutional mechanisms in universities to provide women with safe and dignified educational and professional environments.

During the webinar, detailed discussions were held on the effective implementation of workplace harassment laws in universities, strengthening complaint redressal systems and ensuring better protection for women. This landmark session marked the first provincial-level engagement of its kind opening a new chapter of coordination between the Ombudsperson Secretariat and higher education institutions.

Addressing the participants, Rubab Mehdi described the establishment of safe and respectful working environments for women as both a personal and institutional priority.

She stated that universities are not only centers of learning but also play a key role in shaping societal values making the practical enforcement of a zero-tolerance policy against harassment essential.

She further emphasized that the Ombudsperson Secretariat will continue taking robust measures to ensure compliance with women protection laws, raise awareness and strengthen collaboration with universities to create safer academic spaces.

Vice chancellors participating in the webinar appreciated the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to making inquiry committees more active, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and providing women with safe, respectful and supportive educational and professional environments.
