ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Apr, 2026) A ceremony to distribute wheelchairs among persons with disabilities was held at the Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, in collaboration with welfare organizations Save Life Thalassemia Children and DWA.

A total of 40 persons with disabilities from Peshawar, Malakand, and Hazara divisions including women and children received wheelchairs during the event. Commissioner Hazara Division, Fayyaz Ali Shah, attended the ceremony as chief guest, while representatives of civil society and various welfare organizations were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said that the provision of wheelchairs would significantly improve the mobility of persons with disabilities, enabling them to perform daily activities with greater ease. He termed the initiative of welfare organizations commendable, stating that such efforts help restore independence and confidence among beneficiaries.

He emphasized that after ensuring mobility, the next important step is skill development. In this regard, he said measures would be taken to equip persons with disabilities with vocational skills so they can secure respectable employment and contribute positively to society.

Fayyaz Ali Shah also announced plans to coordinate with the provincial industries department to promote employment opportunities and ensure implementation of the quota reserved for persons with disabilities in government jobs.

Highlighting future steps, he directed the health department to compile comprehensive data on persons with disabilities across Hazara Division. He further stated that efforts would be made, in consultation with hotel associations, to construct ramps in hotels to facilitate access for persons with disabilities.

The Commissioner appreciated the role of welfare organizations, noting that their support had brought visible joy to the recipients. He urged philanthropists and well-off individuals to come forward and support vulnerable segments of society, calling it a collective social responsibility.

Assuring full government support, he said his office would remain open to address the issues faced by persons with disabilities and their families.
