Women Protection Authority approves survivor card for violence victims

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) The Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) has approved key measures to strengthen the protection, rehabilitation and financial empowerment of women, including a proposal to introduce a survivor card for women affected by violence.

The decisions were taken during an important board meeting chaired by PWPA Chairperson Hina Pervez Butt, MPA, under the vision of Maryam Nawaz Sharif for women’s welfare and empowerment.

The meeting also agreed on steps to ensure immediate assistance, guidance and access to justice for women facing violence. Participants discussed strategies to make the women’s protection system more transparent, effective and responsive, particularly for victims of serious abuse.

Speaking at the meeting, Hina Pervez Butt said concrete steps would be taken to make affected women financially independent, adding that the survivor card would help them restart their lives with dignity.

She further said that a comprehensive action plan was being prepared to improve emergency response services for women and reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring timely assistance, protection and justice for every woman.

Director General Punjab Women Protection Authority Dr. Lubna Nazir briefed participants on progress made on previous decisions.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Social Welfare Saira Umar, members of the assembly, officials from the prosecution and home departments, and representatives of Punjab Police.
