Workshop on patient safety held at LGH to strengthen nursing capacity

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2026) Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College (AMC), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Afzal, has emphasized that patients remain the most vital entity for all health professionals, urging nursing faculty and staff to continuously enhance their professional expertise and knowledge.

He expressed these views while addressing a one-day training workshop titled “Patient Safety: From Awareness to Action,” organized under the Nursing Faculty Development Program at the College of Nursing, Lahore General Hospital (LGH).

Prof. Farooq Afzal highlighted that nurses play a crucial role not only in clinical treatment but also in the psychological counseling of patients. He stressed that a positive and empathetic attitude of healthcare professionals instills hope and a renewed would to live among patients suffering from illness.

The workshop was held under the patronage of Principal College of Nursing, Ms. Samina Kausar. Ms. Tahira Shaheen, Principal DHQ Hospital Kasur, and Ms. Abida Tufail, Assistant Nursing Instructor from SIMS, served as facilitators.

Dr. Saira Zeeshan, along with a large number of nursing faculty members, nursing officers, and students, attended the session.

During the workshop, participants were given comprehensive briefings and engaged in practical discussions on promoting a culture of patient safety, timely identification of clinical risks, prevention of medical errors, and implementation of international patient safety protocols in clinical settings.

Prof. Farooq Afzal commended the efforts of the College of Nursing AMC/LGH, stating that such training initiatives serve as the backbone for enhancing the clinical capacity of nursing faculty and improving overall patient care standards. He reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to research, continuous training, and innovation, adding that refining professional skills in healthcare is a shared responsibility.

Participants termed the training session a vital need of the modern era and pledged to incorporate the modern skills and best practices learned into their daily professional duties to promote safe treatment and set new benchmarks in the nursing field.
