World Environment Day observed in Lodhran with awareness rally, tree plantation drive

LODHRAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jun, 2026) The World Environment Day was observed with zeal and enthusiasm in Lodhran on Friday, with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices.

The Environment Department organized an awareness rally at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to highlight the importance of a clean and healthy environment. Participants carried banners and placards advocating environmental conservation, while eco-friendly shopping bags were distributed among citizens to encourage a reduction in plastic use. A tree plantation campaign was also launched as part of the celebrations.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Liaqat Ali Gilani led the rally, accompanied by Deputy Director Environment Dr. Munazza Naseem and Assistant Director Environment Muhammad Aleem Sagar. Minority representative Jacob Aftab, members of civil society, traders, and journalists also participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, ADCG Liaqat Ali Gilani said the Punjab government had launched several transformative initiatives to promote a cleaner and more people-friendly environment.

He appreciated the efforts of the Environment Department’s field staff in combating pollution and raising public awareness about environmental issues.

He stressed that the growing threat of climate change requires collective action and a shift towards environmentally responsible lifestyles.

“To protect future generations from the devastating impacts of climate change, we must reconnect with nature and adopt eco-friendly practices in our daily lives,” he said.

Gilani urged citizens to discourage the use of plastic bags, avoid littering, and actively contribute to maintaining a pollution-free environment.

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, saplings were planted on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, while special prayers were offered for the peace, prosperity, and progress of the country.
