UNITED NATIONS: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 15th, 2026) Global leaders have welcomed a reported agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at reducing tensions in the middle East and advancing toward a broader ceasefire framework.

In separate statements, leaders from the United Nations, Australia, Qatar, France, Türkiye, Japan, New Zealand and Germany expressed support for the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran, describing it as a positive step toward regional stability.

Pakistan confirmed that US-Iran deal would be signed on June 19, Friday, in Geneva.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres congratulated both countries on reaching what he described as a peace-oriented arrangement that includes an immediate cessation of hostilities, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for further negotiations.

In a post on social media platform X, he also praised the role of regional countries, including Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, for their contribution in facilitating dialogue and supporting the negotiation process.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that the Supreme National Security Council of Iran said the memorandum of understanding announced with the United States would bring an end to hostilities across multiple fronts, including Lebanon.

According to the statement, the agreement also provides for the immediate and complete termination of the naval blockade imposed on Iran.

The council further acknowledged and appreciated the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar in helping advance the diplomatic process.

Separately, Australia, Türkiye, Qatar and the United Kingdom also welcomed the agreement and commended the role played by Pakistan and other regional actors in supporting negotiations that led to the reported breakthrough.

The development has been widely viewed as a significant diplomatic step, with international stakeholders expressing hope that it could pave the way for sustained peace and stability in the region.
