PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Mar, 2026) Health experts in Kohat on World Tuberculosis Day urged the public to ensure early diagnosis and complete treatment of tuberculosis (TB), emphasizing that the disease is deadly but curable if managed properly.

Speaking at an awareness event held at the Divisional Headquarters Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr. Syed Tahir Ali Shah Bangash, District TB Officer Dr. Muhammad Tufail and other experts highlighted that timely detection and strict adherence to the full course of medication can lead to complete recovery.

The event was organized by the Association for Community Development in collaboration with the TB Control Program. Officials stated that the government is providing free diagnostic facilities and medicines for TB at all public hospitals.

“World TB Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the disease and encourage people to seek timely medical help,” said Dr.

Bangash, adding that a continuous six-month treatment regimen is essential for full recovery.

Experts outlined key symptoms of TB, including a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, coughing up blood, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, night sweats and fever. They clarified that TB is caused by a bacterial infection that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, dispelling common myths and misconceptions.
