WSSC DIKhan fully prepared for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 with large-scale cleanliness operations: Chairman

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th May, 2026) The Water and Sanitation Services Company DIKhan (WSSC-DIKhan) has announced full preparedness for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 by unveiling a comprehensive sanitation and waste management plan aimed at ensuring cleanliness, public health, and efficient disposal of sacrificial waste across the district during the festive days.

Chairman board of Directors of WSSC DIKhan, Naimatullah Khan Gandapur, said while talking in an interview with APP, that the company remained fully active to serve citizens and maintain a clean and healthy environment throughout the festival.

He said special cleanliness and public awareness campaigns had been accelerated ahead of Eid-ul-Azha under the directives of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure proper sanitation arrangements across the city and surrounding areas.

According to WSSC officials, the company has finalized a detailed operational plan covering all 13 union councils of the district. More than 450 sanitary workers and WSSC staff members have been deployed in day and night shifts under the supervision of 21 supervisors working under the Manager Operations. Over 150 waste collection points have also been established to facilitate timely disposal of sacrificial waste and maintain cleanliness standards during Eid days.

The chairman said effective communication channels would be established with local authorities, community leaders, and residents to disseminate waste management guidelines and collection schedules ahead of the religious festival.

He said the sanitation plan included additional waste collection rounds, revised pickup schedules and enhanced coordination with relevant departments in view of the expected increase in waste generation during Eid-ul-Azha.

Naimatullah Khan Gandapur said WSSC DI Khan would deploy additional garbage bins, waste collection vehicles, cleaning supplies and disinfectants to strengthen operational capacity during the Eid period. He added that biodegradable bags were being distributed among residents to encourage environmentally friendly disposal of animal waste.

He stated that rented machinery and additional manpower would also be arranged where necessary to ensure uninterrupted sanitation services and prompt removal of waste.

The chairman said special street sweeping teams and private laborers had been deployed in various parts of the city, particularly in high-traffic areas and around designated sacrificial animal slaughter points, to prevent the spread of diseases and maintain hygienic conditions.

He said debris removal teams would remain on high alert to promptly clear animal waste, food residues and other solid waste generated during sacrificial activities, while lime and disinfectant powder would be applied around waste containers and affected areas to control odor and reduce health risks.

According to officials, special cleanliness operations were also underway at mosques and Eid grounds where sanitation workers were carrying out sweeping, timely waste collection and other arrangements to facilitate citizens in offering Eid prayers in a neat and hygienic environment.

Cleanliness work was also continuing outside cattle markets established for Eid-ul-Azha, where sanitation staff had been deployed to maintain hygiene standards and provide a clean atmosphere for residents and livestock traders.

As part of the awareness campaign, banners carrying sanitation guidelines and cleanliness messages had been displayed at various locations in the city, while disposal pits were being excavated for safe dumping of sacrificial waste to protect public health and the environment.

The chairman emphasized the importance of community participation and urged citizens, religious leaders and local organizations to cooperate with sanitation teams by ensuring proper waste segregation, responsible disposal practices and participation in cleanliness drives.

He said regular inspections and monitoring mechanisms would remain in place throughout Eid to evaluate sanitation operations and ensure timely resolution of any emerging issues.

WSSC DIKhan also appealed to the public to cooperate with sanitation workers and report sanitation-related complaints through the company’s helpline numbers.

“Citizens can contact the WSSC helpline at 0966-715253 and 0966-9280478 for complaints regarding garbage collection, disposal of sacrificial waste, sanitation services or cleanliness issues in their respective areas,” officials said.

The Chairman added that the comprehensive Eid sanitation strategy was aimed at ensuring uninterrupted public sanitation services, environmental protection and an effective waste management system across the district during Eid-ul-Azha.
