WSSC removes 7,040 tons of sacrificial waste during Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness drive

Dera Ismail Khan, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th May, 2026) Following special directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) Dera Ismail Khan collected over 7,040 tons of animal waste and safely disposed of at designated dumping sites through environmentally friendly methods.

According to details, the three-day Eid sanitation campaign was implemented across 13 union councils and 38 neighbourhood and village councils.

It successfully carried out a comprehensive cleanliness and sanitation operation during Eid-ul-Azha under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer WSSC DI Khan, Hikmatullah Khan, said a report issued here on Saturday.

The report stated that the waste was collected from more than 1,200 collection points established across the district to ensure timely disposal of sacrificial remains and maintain cleanliness in urban and suburban areas.

A total of 83 government vehicles and machinery, along with 45 private vehicles, participated in the operation. Heavy and light machinery including tractor trolleys, tractor buckets, mini Suzuki vehicles, speed rickshaws, tractor shovels, excavators and dumper trucks were utilised to remove waste from roads, streets, markets, chowks and other public places.

The sanitation campaign involved 494 WSSC officials and sanitary workers, while 135 private labourers also assisted in the operation by performing round-the-clock duties during the Eid holidays.

Biodegradable bags were distributed among citizens for safe disposal of sacrificial waste. Lime was later sprinkled at disposal sites, while collection points, streets and roads were washed with water bowsers and disinfectant sprays to maintain hygiene and prevent the spread of diseases.

The operation was jointly carried out by WSSC’s human resources, administrative officers, supervisory staff, field force and private labourers.

Chief Executive Officer, Hikmatullah Khan personally monitored the campaign, while a special monitoring team was also constituted to conduct field visits and ensure effective implementation of the sanitation plan.

Field operations were supervised by the Manager Operations and Manager Wastewater and Solid Waste, while fleet management and water supply matters were handled by the concerned officers.

To ensure smooth execution of all activities, the management team remained fully active throughout the operation. The media team and focal persons played a key role in complaint management and uploading operational data on the official Facebook page and WhatsApp groups.

Complaint cells were established in every union council, while a central control room remained operational at the head office throughout the three-day Eid campaign.

The administration, accounts branch, engineering wing, sanitary inspectors and field staff were appreciated for their dedicated services during the operation.

Citizens and social circles lauded the district administration and WSSC DI Khan for making effective cleanliness arrangements during Eid-ul-Azha and appreciated the efforts of the sanitation workers, supervisory staff, private labourers and management team for successfully completing the large-scale cleanliness drive.
