FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jun, 2026) Yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but an effective means of achieving mental peace, spiritual balance and a healthy lifestyle, said Baba Saleem Shah, United Nations Volunteer, World Yoga Champion and President International Yoga Foundation.
He was addressing a ceremony held in connection with International Yoga Day in Faisalabad. A large number of citizens, students, teachers, medical professionals, social activists and people from different walks of life participated in the event organized at Jinnah Park under the aegis of United Nations' International Yoga Day celebrations.
The ceremony commenced with prayers and tributes to the martyrs of Karbala in observance of Muharram-ul-Haram.
The speakers paid homage to Imam Hussain (May Allah be pleased with him) and the Ahl-e-Bait, stating that their sacrifices continue to inspire humanity with the values of peace, patience, justice and brotherhood.
A special arrangement of Niaz-e-Imam Hussain was also made, in which the participants took part enthusiastically.
Addressing the gathering, Baba Saleem Shah said that the United Nations observes International Yoga Day to promote health, peace and global harmony across the world.
He said that yoga helps individuals maintain physical fitness while also contributing significantly to mental well-being and emotional stability.
He said that regular yoga practice could help reduce stress, anxiety and depression in addition to assisting in the prevention of various physical ailments.
He emphasized the importance of adopting healthy habits and integrating yoga into daily routines to improve overall quality of life.

The health experts and practitioners highlighted the medical benefits of yoga and its positive effects on physical and psychological health.
The speakers said that regular yoga practice enhances fitness levels, strengthens the immune system and promotes inner calm and resilience.
An International Yoga Competition was also arranged in which yoga practitioners of different age groups demonstrated their skills and flexibility.
The participants who delivered outstanding performances were awarded special certificates in recognition of their achievements.
The competition organizers said that the certificates could help recipients pursue professional opportunities in the field of yoga at the international level.
Such activities were encouraging greater awareness about wellness and healthy living among the younger generation, they added.
To facilitate female participants, special privacy arrangements were made at the venue, where women attended yoga sessions in a separate camp.
The participants appreciated the arrangements, saying they provided a dignified and secure environment for women to take part in the event comfortably.
Speaking at the concluding session, Baba Saleem Shah said that yoga serves as a bridge that brings people closer regardless of color, race, religion or nationality.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continuing such activities in Pakistan to promote a healthier society, interfaith harmony and global peace.
