Youth should be encouraged towards sports: Commissioner

CHICHAWATNI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) Commissioner, Sahiwal , Dr Asif Tufail on Monday said that participation of young people in sports was an urgent need of the time, as it helped ensure their healthy mental and physical development.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a three-day Punjab Taekwondo Championship here, he said the sport not only equip youth to mental pressure but also served as an effective means of self-defence.

Around 160 boys and girls from across Punjab took part in the championship.

The event was attended by Additional Commissioner, Coordination, Dr Saifullah Bhatti, Assistant Commissioner General, Ghulam Hussain Bhatti, and the association’s secretary, Dr Izhar-ul-Haq, along with a large number of sports officials and local residents.

Dr Tufail said the Punjab government had, over the past two years, placed strong emphasis on supporting athletes and providing improved facilities, enabling them to showcase their abilities.

He also praised the efforts of the Punjab Taekwondo Association in promoting the sport, adding that the divisional administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at encouraging schoolchildren to take an interest in taekwondo.

On the occasion, Dr Izhar-ul-Haq presented Dr Tufail with a traditional turban after his appointment as patron-in-chief of the association.
