LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) Punjab food Safety and Consumer Protection Secretary Dr. Kiran Khurshid has taken major action against corruption in the Food department while implementing Punjab Chief Minister’s zero-tolerance policy.
According to details, strict disciplinary measures have been taken against four officers of the Directorate of Food after serious allegations were proven against them, said a handout issued here on Monday.
These officers were involved in embezzlement, facilitating wheat smuggling, failing to release wheat on time from open storage areas and colluding with flour mills. The officers against whom action has been taken include District Food Controllers from Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalnagar, Khushab and Bahawalpur.
As part of the departmental proceedings, one officer was dismissed from service, while the others received major and minor penalties.
These penalties include the forfeiture of five years of past service and the withholding of annual increments for one year.
Furthermore, in a case of alleged collusion with flour mills, a fine was imposed on one mill, while the decision to issue only a warning to another mill is also being investigated to determine responsibility.
On this occasion, Dr Kiran Khurshid stated that any kind of corruption involving public resources or actions against the public interest would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
She emphasized that transparency, merit and the rule of law in the Food department would be ensured at all costs.
She further added that the zero-tolerance policy against corruption would continue to be strictly implemented, and such actions would persist without discrimination to ensure public relief and fair and timely supply of wheat.
