PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th May, 2026) Commercial, journalistic, social and literary circles have congratulated Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi on receiving “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” and have termed it a great honor for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s business community and journalistic circles.
Government of Pakistan awarded Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, President Abaseen Columnist Association, Executive Member of Sarhadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman Standing Committee for Railways and a prominent business, social and journalistic figure, with “Sitara-e-Imtiaz” in recognition of his outstanding services to the country and the nation.
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi presented him with the medal during a special ceremony held at the Governor House Peshawar.
President Asif Ali Zardari had announced this highest civil award for Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi on the occasion of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day.
Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi has been playing a significant role in the promotion of trade, journalism, social services and Pak-Afghan trade relations for the past several decades and is known as an influential business and intellectual figure at national level.
He is also a well-known senior columnist and analyst. He started regular column writing in 1980, while his famous column “Yaqeen-e-Mukhmam” in the daily “Aaj” received immense recognition across the country.
He has written thousands of columns on economy, trade, international relations, Pak-Afghan affairs and social issues, which have been published in national and foreign newspapers and magazines.
He has also written many columns in his mother tongue Hindko, while he has participated in programs on Pakistan Television and private TV channels as an economic expert and senior analyst.

Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi is among the founding leaders of the Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry and has also served as Senior Vice President twice.
He is still serving as Senior Vice President. In addition, he is also the Senior Vice President of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Pakistan Railways/Dry Port Standing Committee.
He has played a prominent role in Pak-Afghan trade, railways and customs. His long struggle in establishing the modern Azakhel Dry Port in Nowshera is highly appreciated by the business community.
This project established through his efforts has proved to be a great facility for the business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi has been associated with the sectors of customs clearing, forwarding, shipping and export and import for the past fifty years.
In recognition of his services, he was also awarded the title of “Father of Customs” by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the occasion of “International Customs Day” this year.
He has also made study tours to China, Iran, Afghanistan and India along with various national and international delegations, while he has also played a prominent role in promoting Pak-China, Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran trade relations.
