LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) A large-scale crackdown against fake, non-standard and counterfeit vehicle number plates was launched in Lahore, with action taken against 1,323 vehicles and motorcycles on the first day of the campaign.
According to spokesperson, during a special campaign against applied-for, fancy, non-standard and identity-concealing number plates, challan tickets were issued to 588 vehicles. Action was also taken against 315 motorcycles and vehicles for using fancy number plates or plates that did not conform to the design prescribed by the Excise Department.
Moreover, 420 vehicles were fined for having broken front or rear number plates, unclear registration numbers, or for concealing vehicle identity. Two criminal cases were also registered in the Defence Circle against individuals found using fake number plates.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi said that more than 3,000 citizens were given awareness and warnings for minor violations on the first day of the campaign.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He clarified that a fine of Rs1,000 is imposed for riding a motorcycle without a number plate, while a fine of Rs3,000 is imposed for driving a car without a number plate.
According to the CTO, cases under fraud-related provisions will be registered against those using bogus and illegal green number plates, unauthorised blue lights, and fake registration plates.
He advised citizens to use the new universal registration number instead of the old number when transferring vehicle ownership.
Shirazi said that some motorists alter their number plates to evade e-challans, while criminal elements use fake number plates to conceal their identity. He added that indiscriminate action would continue against such violators.
