31 women from Upper Kohistan complete 2 years LHV training under LADP of Dasu Project

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th May, 2026) As many as 31 women hailing from Upper Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province completed their 2-year Lady Health Visitors (LHV) training at the Public Health school in Abbottabad as a CSR initiative by WAPDA under Local Area Development Programme of Dasu Hydropower Project.

This CSR initiative, that cost a sum of Rs. 58.8 million, primarily aims at improving basic healthcare services with a focus on maternal and child health, and promoting awareness about disease prevention in Upper Kohistan District.

A ceremony was held at Jalal Baba Auditorium in Abbottabad on Thursday to mark the occasion and award certificates amongst the participants for completion of their training, said a message received here.

The ceremony was presided over by Commissioner Hazara Division Fayyaz Ali Shah. Member of the National Assembly from Kohistan, Malik Muhammad Idris, also attended the ceremony.

Addressing the ceremony, the Commissioner of Hazara Division appreciated the initiative, saying it would not only strengthen the Primary healthcare system but also promote women’s empowerment in the remote areas of Upper Kohistan.

He expressed the hope that the trained LHVs would play a key role in advancing public health awareness and improving healthcare facilities within their respective communities.

Civil Administration and WAPDA will remain in close coordination to execute development schemes for the locals and resolve issues for the smooth implementation of the Project, he added.

Earlier, the GM/PD Dasu Hydropower Project, Amir Shafiq-ur-Rehman, in his welcome remarks, said that several social and economic development schemes are underway on priority in the project area to bring positive change for the locals.

It is important to note that WAPDA has been implementing several schemes for the socio-economic uplift of the people residing in the project area through the Local Area Development Programme. Of these, 30 schemes with total expense of Rs 4.808 billion have already been completed, while others are at various stages of completion.

The completed schemes relate to infrastructure development and health, education and energy sectors. In addition to the development schemes, Dasu Hydropower Project is also providing employment opportunities to about 3,450 locals for their financial empowerment.
