9th Muharram main mourning procession concludes peacefully

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jun, 2026) The main mourning procession of the 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram amidst stringent security arrangements emerged from Nishter Park, peacefully concluded at the Husseiniya Irania Imambara Kharadar - district South here Thursday.

The main mourning procession was continuously monitored from the Command and Control Room. The procession passed through its designated routes and ended peacefully at Imambargah Hussainiya, Iranian Kharadar, said a spokesperson of South Zone Police, Karachi.

Before the beginning of the procession, a Majlis was held at Nishtar Park, addressed by a prominent scholar, Allama Syed Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi. At the conclusion of the Majlis, the main procession started its journey along its designated route.

The participants of the mourning procession offered Namaz-e-Zohrain at Imam Bargah Ali Raza, near Naumaish Chowrangi at M.A.jinnah Road.

Extraordinary and foolproof security arrangements were made by the Sindh police along with the Sindh Rangers for the central procession of the 9th of Muharram. Bomb Disposal Squad personnel were also deployed on the occasion.

More than 6,500 police officers and personnel were deployed for the security of the procession and sensitive places, while strict checking was ensured on the internal and external routes.

Additional IG Karachi Azad Khan, along with the DIG South, also reviewed the routes and security arrangements of the procession.

The main procession was monitored from the control rooms established at Soldier Bazar and Preedy police stations, while security cameras were installed on the route of the central procession of 9th Muharram.

The procession route and surrounding roads were sealed off with containers, while special surveillance arrangements were put in place on high-rise buildings.

The M.A. Jinnah Road was closed for traffic due to 9th Muharram-ul-Haram main procession and traffic was routed to the alternative routes announced by the Karachi Traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

The Sabeel (stalls of free meals and cold water and drinks) as well as stalls of rescue organization were also established on the route of procession to facilitate the mourners.
