ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Jul, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Sarmad Saleem Akram has ordered immediate measures to resolve sanitation and drainage issues across the city, including the restoration of the blocked drain at Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH).
Chairing a meeting under the Provincial Government's Good Governance Roadmap and District Service Delivery Vision he also directed authorities to intensify the removal of encroachments built over stormwater drains to improve water flow and reduce the risk of urban flooding during the monsoon season.
Deputy Commissioner instructed the immediate reopening and restoration of the blocked drain at Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH). He also directed the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) to clear all dumping points in Mirpur within two days and asked the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to expedite funding for drainage improvement projects in priority areas.
The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, TMA, Cantonment board, Local Government, Public Health Engineering, Communication and Works Department, the Private Schools Association, and other stakeholders.

Meanwhile, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Afrasiab Zubair Handal, the TMA Enforcement staff launched an anti-encroachment operation on Link Road, using heavy machinery to demolish permanent structures built over drainage channels on both sides of the road.
The district administration said the operation would continue until all illegal encroachments over drains are removed, urging residents to cooperate with the authorities to strengthen the city's drainage and sewerage infrastructure and help mitigate the risk of flash floods during the monsoon season.
