Action taken against 290 profiteers, fines totaling Rs 754,000 imposed on violators

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Action was taken against 290 profiteers in two days and fines totaling Rs 754,000 were imposed, and three shops were sealed during the City administration’s campaign for strict enforcement of official rates for fruits and vegetables.

The Assistant Commissioners ensured the sale of items at official rates through auction at 132 locations, said a spokesperson on Thursday.

The office of Commissioner Karachi has releases the details of actions taken against profiteers over two days.

On the directives of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, all Assistant Commissioners conducted auctions of fruits and vegetables at official rates under their supervision in their respective sub-divisions to ensure enforcement of official prices, which was appreciated by citizens.

The Commissioner has asked all Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to continue the process of auctioning foods at official rates and ensure sale through auctions at maximum locations.

The Commissioner told the Deputy Commissioners to take indiscriminate action against illegal profiteers and ensure that official rates are strictly followed.

The Commissioner Karachi Office released a report on actions taken against profiteers over the past two days, saying that all Assistant Commissioners checked prices of essential food items along with inspecting examination centers and conducting anti-encroachment operations.

According to the details, action was taken against 290 profiteers in total and fines of Rs 7lakh 54,000 were imposed, with three shops sealed.

As per the breakdown, fines of Rs 183,000 were imposed on 90 profiteers in District Central, Rs 158,000 on 49 profiteers in District East, Rs 48,000 on 29 profiteers in District Keamari while 3 shops were sealed in the district.

Around Rs 88,000 on 29 profiteers in District Korangi, Rs 73,000 on 27 profiteers in District Malir, Rs 1 lakh 85,000 on 52 profiteers in District South, and Rs 14,800 on 13 profiteers in District West.
