PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th May, 2026) A one-day capacity-building training workshop aimed at enhancing green skills among journalists was held at a local hotel here on Saturday.
The workshop focused on supporting climate mitigation and adaptation actions through effective media engagement and climate reporting.
The training was organized by Institute for Research, Advocacy and Development (IRADA) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and was brought together journalists from different media organizations to strengthen their understanding of climate science, climate policy, communication strategies, and investigative climate reporting.
The sessions were conducted by renowned experts Dr. Asif Khan and Dr. Faizullah Jan of University of Peshawar, who highlighted the growing role of media in raising public awareness about climate change and environmental challenges.
During the opening session, participants were welcomed by the organizing team, followed by detailed discussions on the scientific basis of climate change, greenhouse gases, global warming, and the human contribution to environmental degradation.
The workshop also covered climate policy and governance, including global climate agreements, sustainable development goals, and environmental governance structures in Pakistan.

In the sessions, participants received practical guidance on climate communication, countering misinformation, and developing compelling climate narratives. A separate session on climate reporting focused on investigative techniques, reporting climate impacts and adaptation measures, and analyzing successful climate journalism case studies.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Asif Khan said journalists play a critical role in shaping public opinion and promoting climate awareness.
Dr. Faizullah Jan stressed the need for accurate and evidence-based reporting to address the challenges posed by climate change.
The workshop concluded with a reflection session in which participants shared key takeaways and pledged to promote informed climate journalism in their respective media outlets.
