PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) Admission of eligible candidates in the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project has started in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for equipping female folk with digital skills, mentorship and access to IT-enabled services to increase their participation in the digital economy.

“D4WEE is an initiative funded by KOICA and implemented by UN Women Pakistan, which aims to empower 6,000 young women in Pakistan, specifically in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” informed Dr Shakeel Khan, Head of business Incubation Centre (BIC), Peshawar University.

This programme is for young women between the ages of 18 to 35 who want to learn real skills that lead them to making real income, Dr Shakeel told APP.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, women would be selected from Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi districts for different courses of their choice.

It also aims to bridge the digital gender divide by providing skills in data analytics, software development, and IT services to women.

The initiative includes partnerships with local startups and international exchanges, e.g., visits to South Korea for women innovators.

Under the project, multipurpose centers would be established at University of Peshawar and University of Punjab to provide safe digital workspaces for training and entrepreneurship.

The project focuses on enhancing women's employability and reducing the gender gap in digital technology and internet usage, he added.

To review progress on implementation of the project, Deputy Country Head UN Women Pakistan, Fahmida Khan, visited BIC Peshawar and held a meeting with Dr Shakeel and other relevant officials.
