MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) Punjab Agriculture department has issued an advisory for controlling mango hopper, a destructive pest affecting orchards.
A spokesperson said growers should prune trees to improve sunlight and air circulation. Fallen debris should be collected and buried before spraying to prevent pest breeding, he added.
Farmers were also advised to avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizers and over-irrigation, as these conditions favor pest growth. Spraying should be carried out on tree trunks during summer afternoons, in consultation with local agriculture experts.
The advisory stressed spraying inner branches first, followed by outer parts. It added that effective control is not possible without treating trunks and thick branches.
In case of severe infestation, growers should repeat spraying after five days.
