Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Tuesday announced that the Kashmir Institute of Cardiology in Mirpur will be upgraded into a world-class, full-fledged cardiac hospital as part of major public welfare initiatives in the region

MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore on Tuesday announced that the Kashmir Institute of Cardiology in Mirpur will be upgraded into a world-class, full-fledged cardiac hospital as part of major public welfare initiatives in the region.

Talking to a delegation of journalists led by KPC President Syed Abid Hussain Shah, the Prime Minister said his recent visit to Mirpur was focused on addressing long-standing public demands rather than political activity. He highlighted key development measures including an increase in the cardiology centre’s budget from Rs6 million to Rs60 million, activation of the catheterization lab, and allocation of Rs20 million for emergency services at DHQ Hospital Mirpur.

He further stated that plans were underway to elevate the Kashmir Cardiology Centre into a separate heart hospital, while a Rs235 million water supply scheme for Kharak village had also been launched.

The Prime Minister added that despite a short tenure, the government was actively pursuing major development projects and aimed to achieve progress ahead of the 2026 elections.

Rathore also said that a “Clean Kashmir” program was planned on the model of Punjab, though time constraints limited its initial rollout. He confirmed approval of a solid waste management project for Muzaffarabad, progress on transforming the State Bank of AJK into a scheduled bank with Rs10 billion funding, and future plans to provide easy business loans to youth. He assured that issues related to drinking water and traffic in Mirpur would be addressed on a priority basis.
