Artists pay tribute to Manzoor Sandhu at Multan Condolence Reference

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2026) Speakers at a condolence reference paid glowing tribute to renowned stage drama director and writer Manzoor Sandhu, describing him as a committed, visionary, and principled artist whose lifelong dedication to quality, family-oriented theatre left an indelible mark on Multan’s cultural landscape.

The condolence reference was organized by the Multan Arts Council’s literary forum (Adbi Baithak) and presided over by Regional Director APP South Punjab, M. Jehangir Khan Tareen. Participants unanimously noted that Sandhu’s work was marked by sincerity, purpose, and a deep engagement with social issues, making his plays both meaningful and widely popular among audiences.

Addressing the gathering, Tareen said that the services rendered by Manzoor Sandhu to stage drama were unparalleled and would continue to inspire future generations. He observed that Sandhu played a pivotal role in promoting family theatre in Multan, a legacy that continues to resonate with audiences.

Quoting William Shakespeare, he remarked, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,” highlighting the timeless relevance of theatre in reflecting human life.

Director Multan Arts Council, Saleem Qaiser, said the late director never compromised on the standards of family entertainment and remained steadfast in his commitment to quality theatre. Renowned drama director, writer, and artist Yousaf Kamran noted that Sandhu worked with great devotion and paid meticulous attention to detail, earning him immense respect and admiration.

Prominent director, producer, and writer Zawar Baloch described Sandhu as a hardworking, intelligent, and seasoned director whose plays enjoyed widespread popularity. Zafar Khan Babar observed that his dramas are still fondly remembered by audiences.

Dr. Abdul Baseer said Sandhu’s productions were rich in purpose and closely aligned with societal issues, while Syed Naqi Shah termed him a creative and highly capable director.

Noted artist Kausar Bhatti described Sandhu as a mentor, adding that he learned a great deal under his guidance. Syed Kamran Haider also acknowledged him as his teacher, crediting Sandhu for nurturing his artistic abilities.

Ijaz Ahmed Soomro remembered the late director as a simple and humble individual who led a life of modesty. Senior drama artist Sher Muhammad Awan said Sandhu set a benchmark through his commitment to quality, family-oriented productions. Makeup artist Ijaz Ahmed recalled him as a self-respecting and principled person, saying his contributions and memories would endure.

The event was attended by Sandhu’s family members, including his brother Mahmood Ahmed Sandhu, son Abdullah Noor Sandhu, son-in-law Ashfaq Ahmed Lakhwira, and Naeem Sandhu, along with poets Qamar Raza Shahzad and Nawazish Ali Nadeem, and other distinguished participants.
