An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday sentenced a man to eight years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him in a case involving recovery of explosive materials
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday sentenced a man to eight years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him in a case involving recovery of explosive materials.
ATC Judge Shahid Sikandar announced the verdict, also ordering confiscation of the convict’s entire property in favour of the state.
According to the prosecution, the accused, Muhammad Hamas Khan, was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Lahore after explosive material was recovered from his possession. The prosecution further argued that the accused had links with a proscribed outfit and was involved in terrorist activities. A case had been registered against him in 2025.
Defense counsel Sardar Farrukh Mushtaq contended that his client is a resident of Dera Ismail Khan and an employee of WAPDA, serving as a driver at the Gomal Zam Dam project. He argued that the accused had travelled to Lahore to collect a cable for a government crane from the WAPDA office.
After hearing arguments from both sides and examining the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found the accused guilty and handed down the sentence.
During the proceedings, the accused, who was on bail, appeared before the court for attendance. However, following the announcement of the verdict, he was taken into custody from the courtroom.
