The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has intensified its crackdown against unregistered and substandard bottled water production units, conducting simultaneous operations across multiple areas of Quetta

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) The Balochistan food Authority (BFA) has intensified its crackdown against unregistered and substandard bottled water production units, conducting simultaneous operations across multiple areas of Quetta.

Food safety teams carried out inspections in Sarki Road, Patel Road, Shawak Shah Road, Satellite Town, Nawan Killi, Chashma Achuzai, Western Bypass, Hazara Town, and Alamdar Road, among other locations. During the operations, more than 18 water plants were inspected, of which nine were sealed for serious violations. Samples from several other units were collected and sent to laboratories for testing.

Inspections revealed that many plants were operating without product registration or BFA licenses. Bottles lacked clear manufacturing and expiry dates, and some units were found illegally using labels of different brands.

Further irregularities included storage tanks contaminated with algae and foreign particles, faulty filtration systems, absence of pest control measures, lack of protective kits (PPEs) for workers, poor waste management practices.

In some facilities, basic hygiene principles were completely ignored during water processing and packaging, posing a serious risk to public health.

A spokesperson for the BFA stated that the production of unsafe bottled water by illegal plants is a grave threat to public health, and strict action is being taken under a zero-tolerance policy.

Citizens were urged to consume only certified and registered bottled water and to immediately report illegal units operating in neighborhoods to the BFA for timely action.
