CEC visits polling stations in Gilgit-Baltistan Elections

The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan, Raja Shahbaz Khan, conducted visits to various polling stations across Gilgit city on the occasion of the General Elections 2026 to assess the electoral process, security arrangements, and the overall polling environment.

He was accompanied by Provincial Election Commissioner Abid Raza, Deputy Commissioner Gilgit Arif Ahmed, SSP Gilgit, and other relevant officials during the visit.

While inspecting polling stations, the Chief Election Commissioner met polling staff, security personnel, and administrative officials, directing them to discharge their responsibilities with neutrality, transparency, and professionalism. He also reviewed the facilities and arrangements being provided to voters to ensure a smooth and orderly polling process.

During the visit, Raja Shahbaz Khan also interacted with election agents representing various candidates present at polling stations. The agents appreciated the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan for maintaining peaceful conditions and effective administrative arrangements, expressing satisfaction over the overall conduct of the electoral process.

Later, the Chief Election Commissioner visited the Gilgit Safe City Control Center, where he was given a comprehensive briefing regarding the monitoring of polling stations established across the city, security measures, and special arrangements implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. Inspector General of Police Dr. Nasser Akbar Khan, along with other senior officials, was also present on the occasion.

Relevant authorities briefed the Chief Election Commissioner on the use of advanced monitoring systems and security mechanisms employed to maintain continuous oversight of election-related activities and ensure law and order throughout the city.

Expressing satisfaction over the overall electoral arrangements and security measures, Raja Shahbaz Khan commended the efforts of the district administration, law enforcement agencies, and concerned authorities for their coordinated performance.

He reaffirmed the Election Commission’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to ensure the conduct of free, fair, peaceful, and transparent elections. He also urged citizens to actively participate in the democratic process and cooperate with the administration and law enforcement agencies in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during the elections.
