LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) The newly appointed Chinese Consul General in Lahore, Mr. Sun Yan, visited Agriculture House here on Thursday.
The Consul General participated in an important meeting with Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani, Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo and Livestock Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar.
Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani stated that under the leadership of the Punjab Chief Minister multiple initiatives were being implemented to enhance agricultural production.
He informed that interest-free loans exceeding Rs 250 billion were being provided to 800,000 farmers through the Kissan Card, and purchases made through this card were positively impacting per-acre crop yield.
He further said that the incumbent government had spent Rs 66 billion to promote mechanization in the agriculture sector.
Additionally, four agri malls were made operational for farmers, while ten more were under construction.
To control smog, 10,000 super seeders were being provided on subsidy, he said.
He emphasized the need for China’s cooperation in removing barriers to frozen meat exports.
Eight compartments had been established for disease-free animals to prevent foot-and-mouth disease.
He also noted that the Punjab Chief Minister's Agriculture Transformation Plan had received strong appreciation from farmers.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo stated that during the Chief Minister Punjab’s visit to China, agricultural machinery manufacturing plants were reviewed.
Furthermore, a high-level delegation of the Agriculture department led by the Provincial Minister visited China in October 2025, which proved to be successful.
During the visit, seven important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, and their implementation was ongoing.
He highlighted the need for cooperation from the Consulate General Lahore to accelerate the implementation of these MoUs, along with special Chinese support for research on cotton seed.
Chinese Consul General Mr. Sun Yan stated that Chinese experts would provide technical support to address challenges faced by the agriculture sector due to climate change.
He added that China would fully cooperate with the government of Punjab to promote smart agriculture.
During the meeting, Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Punjab Ahmad Aziz Tarar also briefed participants on departmental initiatives and facilities being provided to farmers.
